Thank you for your interest in the Las Vegas Charter School of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
By way of introduction, I represent the Board of Directors for the LVCSD. We are a group of people comprised of educators, professionals, parents and Deaf Community members/leaders in the field of Deafness. We share a common unifying goal to open a Charter school in the Las Vegas area (Clark County) for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. Children who attend will experience success in their education and lives, thus enriching the community.
The LVCSD Board envisions a Charter school that provides a rich environment instructing students in American Sign Language, English, reading, writing, mathematics and speech/lipreading (lipreading is an important skill to have, but it is not an education) that follows Nevada Department of Education Standards. Deaf and hearing individuals must be well-trained, and have excellent communication and language skills to become highly qualified effective teachers. Students will learn about the Deaf and hearing culture, which prepares them to be successful in the hearing world.
In September of 2008, LVCSD successfully moved into their new home where Deaf and Hard of Hearing children have an exciting and rewarding educational experience! We at LVCSD intend to become a model school for the state of Nevada and see that dream currently in motion.
As there is so much more information to learn, please do continue browsing our website menu and learn about our various programs. For interested donors and investors, we will provide LVCSD Business Plan and brochures for your information.
I look forward to meeting and hearing from you. We appreciate your support in order to continue attaining our future goals for future success.
