CAROLINE L. BASS
I am employed as Lead
Faculty in the Interpreter Preparation/Deaf Studies Program at the
College of Southern Nevada. I also serve as President of the Nevada
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (2004-2008) and as advisor to the
Nevada State Legislature on issues related to Deafness and
interpreting. Prior to moving to Nevada I was employed as the
Coordinator of Interpreting Services at California State University,
Northridge where I worked for 31 years. In addition to my full time
employment, I taught American Sign Language classes at various schools
for over 30 years. I hold certifications from the National Registry of
Interpreters for the Deaf as follows: Masters Comprehensive Skills
Certificate; Specialist Certificate: Legal; Oral Interpreting
Certificate: Comprehensive.

JEANNIE GIGANTE
Hello, my name is Jeannie
Gigante and I have been a member of the LVCSD since 2003. I originally
hail from New Jersey where I have been an academic teacher for Deaf and
Hard of Hearing high school students for 25 years. I also have been a
free lance interpreter since 1975 and instructed American Sign Language
classes on the high school and college levels. My parents are Deaf and
have blessed me with their beautiful American Sign Language. My life
has always revolved around deaf children and adults. I am willing to
roll up my sleeves and work towards establishing a school for young deaf
children.

PATRICIA LOU GORMAN
Born: Lansing, Michigan Education: Lutheran School for the Deaf in Detroit, Mich.,
Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint, Mich. and California
School for the Deaf in Berkeley, Calif. Married and has two children Employment: Printer, worked in several newspapers and longest in
newspaper was Washington Post in Washington, D.C. Now retired.
Activities: Board member of Las Vegas Charter School of the
Deaf, Former President of Silver Belles in Las Vegas and now
President of Las Vegas Club of the Deaf and much involved in
Deaf Senior Citizens of Las Vegas. Also tutor in ASL (American
Sign Language) at College of Southern Nevada (Cheyenne) |

ELAINE B. HAINES
Deaf by birth (unknown cause) and raised with her entrepreneurial family
in Washington, DC.Kendall School and Gallaudet University Alumni.In 1976, Ms. Haines and her late husband established NFSS, Inc. as a
mail order electronics business in their home basement (for 7 years)
which catered to the needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. In 1983,
NFSS relocated to downtown Silver Spring, MD in a new office building.
In 1986, a branch office called NFSS-West was established in Los
Angeles, CA. In 1992, with the unexpected death of Ms Haines' husband,
she became President. In 1993, Ms. Haines was given the Successful Deaf
Entrepreneur of the Year award for many years of teamwork and mentorship
as visionary entrepreneur in the Deaf Community by the Deaf
Entrepreneurs Council. Honorary member of the Delta Epsilon sorority (at
Gallaudet), served on varied committees and organizations. Retired from
NFSS, Inc. in 1997. Currently, she is still very much involved as
President of Board of Directors for Las Vegas Charter School of the Deaf
since 2001. She has one son and a grandson living in Maryland. A
die-hard Washington Redskins nut, loves to travel, attend art & craft
shows, shopping and play any games like poker, Mah Jongg, Scrabble.....

LUCILLE
Z. HAZAN
Born and raised in Los
Angeles, California, Lucille became deaf at the age of 2 from a
combination of Scarlet Fever and Red Measles. Lucille attended a day
school in Los Angeles for Deaf and hard of hearing children. She can
lip-read and speak well and use American Sign Language fluently. Lucille
has been married to Isadore A. Hazan for 55 years and has 4 children, 12
grand children, 6 great grandchildren.
In her earlier years, she
was employed with the Greater Los Angeles Council for the Deaf in the
San Fernando Valley, California offices for 6 years as an information
and referral specialist. In Las Vegas, Lucille was employed with the
Clark County School District as an elementary school as teacher aide for
Deaf and hard of hearing children. She is currently retired. Lucille has
been with Las Vegas Charter School of the Deaf for 8 years as board
member and fundraising chairperson. |

LISA LAQUIDARA
Born in
Brooklyn and raised in Staten Island, New York. Deaf by birth (unknown
cause) with hearing parents. Attended public schools. Graduated with an
Masters. I now teach at Clark County School District for the past 12
years in an hearing classroom with an interpreter/aide with me at all
times. Have been on this board for the past eight years as a member and
look forward to see a school establish for the Deaf students in Nevada.

ARLENE PERRONE
My name is Arlene Perrone. I
was born deaf, all of my family and relatives are hearing, only my
brother and I are deaf. I went to Lexington School for the Deaf in New
York City for 12 years. I got several jobs, all in office field,
keypunch and verify works. My wonderful deaf husband and I are married
for 48 years and have five hearing children and three grandchildren also
hearing. Current board member of Las Vegas Charter School of the Deaf,
treasurer and fundraising committee for Friends of Las Vegas Charter
School of the Deaf. I'm a member of Las Vegas Club of the Deaf and
auditor, member of Nevada Association of the Deaf, member of Silver
Belles, member of Long Island Club of the Deaf in Queens, NY, member of
Golden Tornadoes Club (GTAC) in New York City.

WILLIAM MORAN, JR.
Profoundly deaf since
birth and raised with hearing parents and have two of four siblings are
deaf in Scranton, Penna... attended to Scranton State School for the
Deaf... He employed at Panel Prints, Inc. as supervisor, also was one of
22 stockholders for thirty years and retired in April, 2000 and
relocated to Las Vegas in December, 2000. He was appointed three times
by Governors (Richard Thornburgh, Robert Casey and Tom Ridge as Board of
Trustees, Scranton State School for the Deaf in Penna., he served 16
years as board member, also president for six years and involved
commission for Penna. Dept of Labor/Industry, Advisory Council for the
Deaf &Hard of Hearing. He is still active as board member for Las Vegas
Charter for the Deaf since January, 2001. he is married to my lovely
wife for over 33 years and have two deaf children. He is loyalty to New
York Yankees and New York Giants. |

EVELYN L. PRESTON
I am thrilled to be a part
of this exciting venture. It has been a long time dream of mine to see a
school exclusively for Deaf children in Nevada. I have been deaf since
the age of 3. I was raised in California and attended public schools
where the method of instruction was speech and lip-reading. I learned
American Sign Language at the age of 18 when I met my husband who was
Deaf and a graduate from the California School for the Deaf in Berkeley.
After working for many years as a Key Punch Operator. I returned to
college and graduated with an AA Degree at the age of 56. I began
teaching American Sign Language to adults in the community college
setting and upon my “retirement” calculated that I had taught for 44
years. Currently, at the age of 86, I work as an American Sign Language
Mentor/Tutor for ASL and Interpreting students at the College of
Southern Nevada. |

CECELIA ROSEN
Born to Deaf parents Frieda and Ludovik Wurmfeld
in Czechoslovakia during the World War II. I was became Deaf at 2
years old unknown illness. My parents and I were Holocaust survivors
after the war. Moved to live in Paris, France in 1949 and attended Deaf
School for 3 years. Moved to America in 1952 and settled down in
Brooklyn, NY. Attended Lexington School for the Deaf (residential) then
P.S. 47 for the Deaf (day school) in Manhattan, NY. I am proud to be
United States of America Citizenship in 1958. Graduated from Charles
Evans Hughes High School in 1961(my first mainstreamed with no
interpreters at that time) in NYC. Worked as word processing operator
for Law Firm. Married Bernard (Ben) Rosen, Deaf Canadian in NYC and
raised 2 daughters Lori and Sarah. Grandmother of 4 (fraternal twin
girls and 2 boys). We moved to settle down in Las Vegas after we retired
in 1992. I was and am still involved with Deaf community: Las Vegas
Club of the Deaf (LVCD) as secretary – 1998 to 2001 and 2005 to
present. Deaf Bowling Committee (Chairlady/secretary) 1998 to 2001,
NVAD (member at large; audit), Silver Belles of LV, Inc. (audit),
NVAD-1999 Conference Committee). I am the one of the original founders
of Las Vegas Charter School of The Deaf (LVCSD) in 1999. LVCSD -
treasurer 2001 to present. Silver Belles of LV, Inc. president 2005 to
present. DSA2009 Conference in Las Vegas - Co-Chair-2007- 2009.

SHERRI SOLOMAN
In 1971, I moved to the
small, quiet town of Las Vegas, NV. I am a
mother of three daughters. I have five
grandchildren. My first grandson, who is Deaf,
attends
Mill Neck School for the Deaf in New York. My
oldest daughter, Renee, is a freelance
interpreter in New York.
From 1978-1980, I was a
teacher’s
aide for a
program for the
Deaf at Ruby Thomas Elementary School. I have
been working for the State of Nevada in several
different agencies for 28 years. I presently
work for the Division of Child and Family
Services as an Accounting Assistant.
In 1984, I was the first
person to be the director of the Miss Deaf
Nevada Pageant for the Nevada Association of the
Deaf. I was
also the director
of the Miss USA Deaf Pageant during the
basketball tournament in 2005. Both times
the pageants
were successful.
From 1982-1983, I was on
the board for Sign Design
Theatre.
Sign Design is a group of children who perform
in dance and sign language. My second and third
daughters were members and had participated in
many performances. Some of which were on
television. I
have served on the
Las Vegas Charter School for the Deaf
board for two and a half
years. I am so excited about the Charter School
for the Deaf opening this Fall. We have worked
very hard to make our goals come true after
eight years. |

JENNIFER TRUPIANO
I'm
a native Las Vegan; a '79 Bishop Gorman
graduate. In July 2007 I graduated from the
College of Southern Nevada with an Associate
Degree in Deaf Studies and an Associate Degree
in Deaf Studies, Emphasis Interpreter
Preparation. I have had an Associate Degree
Dental Hygiene since 1984, however the focus of
my future career plans will incorporate
interpreting and the deaf community, perhaps
through involvement with the Deaf Bilingual
Coalition (DBC) and children...I LOVE CHILDREN!
Fundraising activities are a main interest in
supporting this charter school. I am married 17
years. My daughter (16) plans to be a
professional singer/songwriter. My son (14)
plans to be a professional soccer player.

SHERLEE WILLIAMS
I have been involved in deaf
education since 1977 when I volunteered in a classroom for deaf and hard
of hearing students in rural Indiana when I was in high school. I
continued volunteering in this class through college also. I earned my
Bachelor's Degree in elementary education from Indiana University in
1984 and did all of my practicum's in deaf and deaf-blind classrooms. I
worked as a nurse’s aide in a nursing home taking care of young adults
while I was in high school, college, and three more years after
college. I then went to Ball State University and received a Masters
Degree in deaf education and completed my student teaching at the
Indiana School for the Deaf. After graduating from Ball State, I
enrolled in Gallaudet University. I earned my Masters degree in
developmental psychology for the deaf and a Specialist's degree in
school psychology for the deaf. I completed a year internship at the
South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind. I worked with all of the
deaf, deaf-blind, and deaf multi-handicapped students at this school and
continued working there for one more year. I was a counselor at a camp
for deaf children and teens in Indiana for 14 years. I have worked with
all of the deaf, deaf-blind, and deaf multi-handicapped students in Las
Vegas at the Clark County School District for the past 14 1/2 years.
I also work part-time as a sign language interpreter and hold national
certifications - Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf - CI and CT and
the National Association of the Deaf - Level 5 - Mastery. I belong
to the following organizations - National Association of the Deaf,
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Nevada Association of the Deaf,
Las Vegas Club for the Deaf, National Association of School
Psychologists (and the deaf subgroup), and the Nevada Registry of
Interpreters |
